GIU Day 3 - Shabby Chic

Hello everyone!! Welcome to day 3 of my Growing in Unity!! This week, till Friday, I will be sharing projects that I made with Unity Stamps. Thank you so much for the lovely comments on my first two posts. Let's get on to the project for today.

People who follow my blog on a regular basis know that I create clean and simple cards most of the time. But I do love the look and cards with lots of layers and different folds, decked with flowers and other embellishments! There are a lot of different things on my to-do list. Criss-cross cards has been on that list for a long time. I finally decided to check that off my list. Also, I wanted to make a shabby chic card for a long time. I guess this qualifies as shabby chic.

I used a dark brown card stock for base. I recently bought a pack of paper napkins from Dollar Tree that had a Paris inspired design on a script background. I bought it with dreams of using it on a big decoupage project. But, as always, I haven't done anything with it yet. I decided to use it for the diagonal panels because it matched with the script background of the stamp I was planning to use. I cut card stock panels first and used mod podge to glue the napkin to it. I sponged the edges with distress ink Gathered Twigs.

I used the stamp from Unity Stamps' Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful and embossed it with brown embossing powder. I sponged the panel with distress ink Old Paper and colored the flowers with Seedless Preserves.

I used a punched butterfly and sponged it with distress ink Seedless Preserves and used Nuvo pale gold pearl drops on it. The flowers are handmade. I used a 5 petal flower punch and sponged it with Seedless Preserves. I shaped it and used some pollen from my stash.

For the pull-out panel, I decided to recycle a package backing from Itsy Bitsy embellishment pack that I had bought more than 2 years. I couldn't bring myself to throw it out. I matted it with brown card stock and punched out the border.

Here's the original packaging:

So how do you like this card? Do visit me every day this week, and leave your thoughts and comments. I will pick 2 winners at the end of this week and they will win 25 random stamps from Unity!! How awesome is that!! See you tomorrow with another new and exciting project.

Absolutely gorgeous card Berina! My favourite style. A wonderful card design using the paper napkin and the recycling packaging was definitely worth saving as it looks lovely on your card. I can't believe you made those beautiful flowers too. You should definitely make more of these cards as for a first shabby chic card you've excelled yourself! Debra x
